It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Oh, my stars. I know you guys think I'm a horrible mother. ;)

(anyone else singing that song in their head now?)

Today begins 1st and 4th grade for Rory and Camden. They were super excited although Camden's excitement had transferred to big nerves (and, therefore, socially awkward) by the time we arrived at school. We had parent orientation last night. We already know both of their teachers and are super pleased with them (although I'm going to miss Camden's teacher from last year, especially because she always sent me little Camden tidbits - Hello, Megan!). We're so blessed to have always had good teachers.

Fourth grade is a pretty big jump in terms of personal responsibility, the discipline system, as well as academically. I have no doubt Camden will do very well as usual although I think that the speeches and journaling are going to challenge him in a new way. Brian used to teach with Camden's teacher, Mrs. G, so we know first hand that she is great. One of his best friends did not return to school this year (and one left last year), and he was pretty bummed.

I was a little concerned about Rory's reading at the end of kindergarten, but she has made tremendous progress over the summer simply by reading signs, labels, and chapter books (because she wants so desperately to be like Camden). Now recognizing money? That's a whole other story. I'm excited about Rory's teacher because I think that Rory will respond so well to her very sweet and nurturing spirit.

Those new tennis shoes they picked out.

This picture speaks volumes to me. Rory is bouncing off the wall while Camden's nerves are showing all over his face.

I will be excited to pick them up this afternoon and hear all about their first day. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy a very quiet day.

Congratulations on your freedom! I have homeschooled for 7 years now, and I am 'considering' putting the youngest 2 in school this year. Though I will still have the oldest at home (age 11, going thru the "tween" phase...ugh...), I welcome the freedom that I MAY get from sending the other 2 to school. I don't know what I will do with my time, but it doesn't matter...the fact is I will have TIME!!
And yes, I will be singing that song in about 2 weeks as well.
Take care!
I just love that they can wear any polo... Ours are red, white, navy or the light blue!

Love the last one of Rory with her arms out! So very much like my two!
I'm going to miss him so much! And I am also sad about his friend not returning this year. I just found out last Wednesday. He will be missed!
It is the most wonderful time of the year! I think. I'll let you know in three-ish weeks. ;-)

And, I love that photo of them on the way into school. You captured the moment so perfectly.
