Thousand Gifts 960-1,000

When I started reading One Thousand Gifts last January and started this list, I could never have imagined what 2011 would hold for our family. But it was God's plan for my life that I begin this journey because this list has made such a difference. He knew that my naturally pessimistic self would not survive 2011. I needed something to turn my focus from the negative; to learn how to be thankful in the midst of hard times. I'm not going to pretend that I've mastered this, but it is something I'm committed to continuing. I don't know that I'm necessarily going to keep up a numbered list, but I am going to continue my list each Monday.

And if you haven't read One Thousand Gifts, I would encourage you to read it this year. The writing style is very poetic and beautiful. I prefer a writing style that is a little more straight forward, but the principles are so good and so worth learning.

I've enjoyed your list so much this year! I started a list last year but it fell by the wayside once Lukas came home. I'm committed to starting and finishing this year!

Blogging feels awkward these days. Not blogging feels a bit like abandoning an old friend. In this season of life it doesn't feel necessary to jot down every cute quip (and that's only partially because they don't say nearly as many cute things). The kiddos (even that is strange - can I still call a 12 and 9 year old kiddos?) are more likely to say "don't put that on your blog!" Rory still likes the attention, but Camden is feeling the need for privacy. But they also still love to read my words. Cousins, part 3 (the adult version)

So I'm notoriously bad about including adults in the picture when we're all together, and this trip was no exception. Here are the very few that include adults. Becky is always my test subject before the cousin photo shoots. At the baseball game (which was incredibly hot/humid and started nearly an hour late). Kids were pretty wiped out after their naps following the return from camp. (the adult who spent a week at camp might have been tired too) Camden had the camera and took these pictures of me and Becky, Liz, and mom. Lewis/Hale/Derby/Lemons family - you're all caught up!

7/52: Pastel

This week's theme was pastel and there's not a whole lot of pastel in our house, much less with my black-eyed, black-haired Korean gal. However, she gave me about 10 minutes of cooperation in 10 degree weather and we attempted a pastel snow picture. The first one is my official pastel picture, but I included the other attempts because it was pretty darn fun. This is a new face I'm seeing often these days. By the way, she has 3 shirts underneath this dress, a pair of pajama pants and a pair of hot pink sweat pants. LOL
