We're Home

We made it home in a little under 10 hours yesterday, and although I think we're all glad to be back with no road trips in the near future, we had a wonderful time. The kids were happy to be back with their daddy and Rory ran to her room and laid down on the floor, so I'm guessing she was happy to be back in familiar territory. I pretty much crashed last night so I've got alot of unpacking and laundry to do today. Not to mention that the fridge is empty, I'm pretty sure the floors haven't been vacuumed since I left, and the bathrooms need some help. I'm working on pictures but for now here are just a few random thoughts about our trip: You know you've spent a week in chilly Illinois when you come home and think that 73 is stifling hot. After spending 24 hours in a car with a DVD player stuck in front of her nose, Rory still wants nothing to do with TV/movies. I may never win her over. By the way, how did parents survive road trips before portable DVD players...

Friday

Image
Just dropping in to post a few pics from the John Deere Museum. I didn't get to take near as many as I wanted, but the kids were moving so fast from combines to tractors that I couldn't keep up. Our Internet access has been very limited (honestly, did we really think we were going to get computer time with 4 kids running around?) and I haven't had time to even look at pictures, much less edit and post. We're having a good, but thoroughly crazy, time. The kids are really enjoying playing together even if we have had torrential downpours almost every day and the fact that they've all 4 decided they no longer need to sleep. Yesterday was a L.O.N.G. day! Becky and I rushed to the mall to pick up a few necessities, rushed home, got the kids down for an early nap (which they fought every step of the way), woke them up from the nap, drove 2 hours for a photo shoot with Kellie , spent 3 hours getting our pictures taken, drove 2 hours home and got the kids in bed about 10:30...

Visiting the Grandparents

Image
After 10 hours of travel for us, (and 11 hours for Becky and the boys) we arrived safe and sound Monday night in Illinois. It really wasn't too bad. I mean, not that I wasn't ready to just be out of the car, but the kids were really good and it was wonderful to meet Becky half way and ride the rest of the way together. Camden and Rory decided to give up sleep this trip and were awake until well after 11:00 Monday night and then were up before 6:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. We went to the zoo Tuesday morning, and the kids had a blast. The weather was so nice and the zoo is small enough that you can cover it in about 1.5 hours. We then went to a nearby park for a picnic, then spent the afternoon playing outside and riding horses. Becky and I managed to slip away for Whitey's Ice Cream and made it back just in time to split up and watch American Idol and The Biggest Loser. Quality family time. Wednesday morning we took the kids to the John Deere Museum and the boys loved it! Curre...

And we're off!

Image
I'll just say it out loud. I may not survive the 9 hour drive tomorrow. I'm driving the first 5 hours with Camden and Rory, then meeting Becky and her boys and we'll drive the remaining 4 hours together. I've never traveled alone with the kids for a very good reason. I need Brian to be the patient, sane one on the road. I'm very excited to spend the week with my family, but I've got to survive the drive first. Our weekend was very full. The CPR class was helpful, the manicure/pedicure/haircut was pretty fabulous, the Mother's Day meal was yummy, and the afternoon was very busy with packing/laundry/keeping the kids from bouncing off the walls in anticipation of a visit with Grandma and Grandpa. Two quick stories and alot of pics. 1. At lunch on Saturday Camden was asking how Jesus actually fits into our hearts, what He does in there, etc. Brian told him that he helps us make good choices (among other things, of course). Camden responded with, "Well, that...

Happy Mother's Day

Image
I can remember when Mother's Day was not a happy occasion; when it was a day that I wanted to just stay in bed and cry. There were years I skipped church on Mother's Day because it was too hard to go and be happy for everyone else. Not anymore. I have two beautiful children that are gifts from God; children that could have belonged to someone else but God chose me. I pray every day that I can be the mother and wife that He wants me to be. I'm also more than blessed to have a wonderful mother as an example of a Godly woman. I'm sure I didn't appreciate her quite enough as a girl, but I definitely appreciate her now! Happy Mother's Day! Not quite sure what today holds for us, but I know I'm not cooking! :)

A New "Haircuk"

Image
I took Rory in for a "haircuk" yesterday, and we decided to go short! She was so cute sitting in the big chair looking at herself in the mirror. When it was over, she just smiled and smiled. Adorable! (Picture disclaimer: yes, I know the coloring is completely different on all 3 of these photos. I don't have a clue what I'm doing with my camera!) Before After Not so happy We ran LOTS of errands yesterday, and the kids were none-to-happy about it. Usually Camden acts as if I'm asking him to tear his hair out one strand at a time because we need to go to the grocery store, post office, etc., and yesterday was no different. Unfortunately, I had SIX stops in 3 different cities which made for a very long 4 hours. I really needed to run out again today and pick up a few things in Nashville, but we're having thunderstorms all day so I think I'm going to either put it off or just plan to do without. Today involves cleaning the entire house as well as getting caug...

One More

One more from this morning just cause it cracked me up. Last night, she played in her crib again forever and while she was getting dressed this morning we were talking about it. Apparently, I gave her a "look" when I went in to tell her it was time to stop playing and go to bed.
