Five on Friday (January 11, 2019)

We dove head first into the deep end of the pool and barely know how to swim. That's how this week has felt as we all returned to work and school full time. January has never felt so busy! But we survived the first week and we're prepared for week #2.

1. Turns out recovering from surgery (even a little one) is harder than it seems. Or, as my boss kindly pointed out, the older we are the harder to recover.

2. Camden caught me off guard this week when he mentioned that he's been thinking about going to medical school to become a gynecological oncologist. Not gonna lie - he didn't know what that specialty involves. I think he would be a great doctor. It's a fine line to walk between encouraging him to pursue whatever career God places on his heart and not influencing him in choosing that career.

3. Finished my first book of 2019.

4. Brian and I booked tickets to NYC for spring break. We're taking an early anniversary trip, and I'm very excited. Also a tad overwhelmed at finding a place to stay and setting an itinerary. Suggestions? Especially for a place to stay?

5. Our Friday morning Bible study started back up this morning. Literally 3 minutes away from the church, I got a phone call from school letting me know Rory was sick. I'm sorry she's sick but I can't complain about a cozy quiet day on the couch with her.

Weekend plans are slim. Camden is spending the day with a friend; Brian has a Saturday morning meeting and Sunday afternoon/evening discipleship group. Other than that, the days are slow. Happy Friday, friends.

Blogging feels awkward these days. Not blogging feels a bit like abandoning an old friend. In this season of life it doesn't feel necessary to jot down every cute quip (and that's only partially because they don't say nearly as many cute things). The kiddos (even that is strange - can I still call a 12 and 9 year old kiddos?) are more likely to say "don't put that on your blog!" Rory still likes the attention, but Camden is feeling the need for privacy. But they also still love to read my words. Not a week goes by that they don't pull out blog books from previous years and pore over the pictures and words. Rory giggles and retells the stories; Camden quietly takes in the tougher subjects. Here's the truth. I have less to share because life is both busy and unexciting at the same time. Cousins, part 3 (the adult version)

So I'm notoriously bad about including adults in the picture when we're all together, and this trip was no exception. Here are the very few that include adults. Becky is always my test subject before the cousin photo shoots. At the baseball game (which was incredibly hot/humid and started nearly an hour late). Kids were pretty wiped out after their naps following the return from camp. (the adult who spent a week at camp might have been tired too) Camden had the camera and took these pictures of me and Becky, Liz, and mom. Lewis/Hale/Derby/Lemons family - you're all caught up!

7/52: Pastel

This week's theme was pastel and there's not a whole lot of pastel in our house, much less with my black-eyed, black-haired Korean gal. However, she gave me about 10 minutes of cooperation in 10 degree weather and we attempted a pastel snow picture. The first one is my official pastel picture, but I included the other attempts because it was pretty darn fun. This is a new face I'm seeing often these days. By the way, she has 3 shirts underneath this dress, a pair of pajama pants and a pair of hot pink sweat pants. LOL
