While Rory chowed down on her pasta with both hands at the supper table tonight, Camden (in his own words), “when I was eating my cherry cheese cake, I asked God into my heart for the first time.” To be honest, we thought he was too young to completely understand, but he’s been asking questions for several weeks now, and tonight he had the longest conversation on one topic that he’s probably ever had, and he asked very good questions and definitely understood what was going on. I don’t know about Brian, but I shed a few tears (although through the laughter – see below). Of course, in typical little boy fashion, the point that stuck out to him the most was that he did it while eating cherry cheese cake. Here are a few funny things that happened throughout the conversation.
He says “hell” with the hickest southern accent you’ve ever heard. It has something like three syllables when he says it.
He wanted to know specifics of who was in hell and thought we should be naming names.
When Brian told him that Jesus died for everyone’s sins, he asked if it was true for “everybody in the America’s and also for the African people.”
“But I don’t have any money” said in an incredulous tone when we told him that someone had to pay for our sins.
“Awesome” – how he responded when we told him that Jesus took care of our debt for us.
“We should have a party” when Brian told him that June 12 was a very big day for him!
“I’ll give you a great big bear hug and smile when I see you in heaven. I don’t think Rory will be there, though.”
Praise the Lord, Camden! and Mom and Dad...you are doing a great job! I have tears rolling down my face having watched that video. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks for sharing! That is so wonderful. There is no better feeling for a parent than to hear your child pray and ask Jesus into their heart! Praise the Lord!!

Blogging feels awkward these days. Not blogging feels a bit like abandoning an old friend. In this season of life it doesn't feel necessary to jot down every cute quip (and that's only partially because they don't say nearly as many cute things). The kiddos (even that is strange - can I still call a 12 and 9 year old kiddos?) are more likely to say "don't put that on your blog!" Rory still likes the attention, but Camden is feeling the need for privacy. But they also still love to read my words. Not a week goes by that they don't pull out blog books from previous years and pore over the pictures and words. Rory giggles and retells the stories; Camden quietly takes in the tougher subjects. Here's the truth. I have less to share because life is both busy and unexciting at the same time. I cannot distinguish between what is important to remember and what will be meaningless in 20 years when Camden and Rory are grown with families of thei
So I'm notoriously bad about including adults in the picture when we're all together, and this trip was no exception. Here are the very few that include adults. Becky is always my test subject before the cousin photo shoots. At the baseball game (which was incredibly hot/humid and started nearly an hour late). Kids were pretty wiped out after their naps following the return from camp. (the adult who spent a week at camp might have been tired too) Camden had the camera and took these pictures of me and Becky, Liz, and mom. Lewis/Hale/Derby/Lemons family - you're all caught up!
This week's theme was pastel and there's not a whole lot of pastel in our house, much less with my black-eyed, black-haired Korean gal. However, she gave me about 10 minutes of cooperation in 10 degree weather and we attempted a pastel snow picture. The first one is my official pastel picture, but I included the other attempts because it was pretty darn fun. This is a new face I'm seeing often these days. By the way, she has 3 shirts underneath this dress, a pair of pajama pants and a pair of hot pink sweat pants. LOL
