What We're Doing Today

Image
I've mentioned a couple of times a secret project we've been working on. Today is finally the big day, and I'm so excited. We've been working with Kelle , who is a fabric designer for Robert Kaufman. She has a new fabric line for spring/summer 2010 and has created 3 outfits for Rory to model for their print campaign. Today is the photo shoot with Angela Crutcher who happens to be my favorite photographer as well as the one who took Camden and Rory's Celebrating Adoption photos (if you haven't seen these, you should definitely click). It has been so fun to go through the process and see pieces of fabric become clothing. I love seeing creative people in action (since I am mostly definitely not one). We've had 3 fittings, and Rory has loved it. Both Kelle and Christine (the seamstress) are very sweet, and I've had a blast watching them mix and match fabrics. Rory is quite excited because Kelle has requested that she have her fingernails and toenails paint...

It's Monday

Image
I've been having trouble sleeping since summer began and I started sleeping in until the late hour of 6:00 a.m. ;) Last night I watched an hour of Korean TV before bed and I spent the night tossing and turning with Korean people making noise in my head (because there were no subtitles in my brain at 1:00 a.m.) interspersed with dreams of cockroaches in the house (not related to Korean TV). It was a fairly miserable night, and I may have to lay off Korean TV at bedtime since this happened last week as well. And, no, we don't have roaches in the house; I'm just having nightmares that we do. Brian is volunteering with the flood relief effort today so the kids and I are on our own, which happens to be okay since it's 7:39 and they're still asleep! Camden has been sleeping later since there's no school, but you can usually count on Rory to wake up shortly after 6:00. We also are having a respite from the 90 degree weather and crazy humidity today and I hope to en...

Quiet Day

Image
Oh, what a lovely day! Too hot to be outside (even Camden and Rory were tired of sweating) so I've spent a quiet day inside reading and scrapping. The kids seem really happy playing on their own today, and I've taken complete advantage of it. I even passed up a chance to go to Nashville alone so that I could continue my day (in my p.j.'s). Happy Anniversary to Us

Image
Not only was Monday Memorial Day, but it was also our 13th wedding anniversary. Because we were traveling, there was no celebration. Okay, honestly, at 13 years and with 2 kids on a Monday, there probably wouldn't have been much celebrating anyway. ;) But we are having date night tonight, and I can't wait to eat at a restaurant without four extra little hands and see a movie that doesn't involve animation. If I am remembering correctly, this would be the first date since New Year's Eve so we're definitely overdue. I know I should mention what a great husband Brian is, but if you know us, then you already know it's true, and I am one lucky girl. We've made it through our first week of summer vacation, and I'd like to say it's been a blast, but it's been more of a transition than a blast. I will fully take the blame. It happens every year - having all 4 of us home together sounds so nice. But when you're a Type A personality and your schedule g...

Eating Our Words

Image
When Camden started this baseball thing, we looked around us and saw so many families whose lives had been completely taken over by sports. Sports had priority over church, family events; sports ran them ragged as they went in multiple directions at once, etc. And we determined to not go that road. We also specifically planned to just do regular season baseball, skip all-stars, etc. Well, we're eating our words because when Camden was invited to be on the all-star team this year (only 11 players out of 46 were chosen so it was an honor), we didn't hesitate too long. We're still committed to not letting sports get in the way of the more important things in life, but for the next 3-4 weeks we'll be participating in the all-star team, or Little League on Crack as I like to affectionately call it. It involves 4-5 practices a week, plus games. It's a big time commitment, but Brian is out of school and has extra time and we have no vacations planned. Not to mention that I...
