Naptime

Image
You know we've been busy when I have pictures of two times in the last 7 days that Rory has fallen asleep at sometime other than a real naptime. She's all about "skipping nap, mama" these days. Coming home from a fundraising service Sunday (we spent almost 6 hours in the car), and she fell asleep with Leapster in hand. And another day she fell asleep on her bed at supper time. (Photographer friends: I'm pretty happy with these. The light was horrible, but I bumped up my ISO and managed to get it all properly exposed anyway.) Watching your babies sleep never gets old. And I already scrapped it. Credits here .

Tuesday's Tidbits

Image
"You know I'm a good size, mama . . . for being Koreanish." One guess as to who that came from. Starbucks Via packets for iced coffee are surprisingly good! Especially poured into16 oz. bottled water, topped off with a little half-n-half and then chilled in the freezer for 20 minutes or so. Not a big fan of her theology, but this post by Momastery completely cracked me up. I finished up The House at Tyneford yesterday. Think Downton Abbey in book form. We can now add skunks to our list of animal friends found in our front yard. When I saw Dr. W for my post-op appointment a couple of weeks ago, his nurse was weighing a little elderly lady. She weighed all of 86 pounds and I was feeling a little sorry for her until she told the nurse that "maybe some of you hefty girls could share with me." I bought a pair of white shorts last week. Maybe this isn't a big deal to you, but I have NEVER bought a pair of white shorts/capris/j...

These Pesky/Wonderful Kids

Image
A couple of weeks ago, I think I had vented here (or maybe on FB) about settling into a new routine with the kids. They're sharing a room, we're all home for the summer in our new space, the recent demise of naptime, the fact that we're all together 24/7, etc. I have to say that things are going fairly well and thought I'd share a few things that we do to keep it all in check. My kids like a schedule. They're like they're mama! If I find the day stretching out in front of us, I'll jot down a schedule of what needs to be done for the day. There's something about knowing exactly when I expect them to help out, when they'll get to play, have free time, etc. that seems to help. And they adore crossing things off the list. We're working very hard on being kind to each other so when the kiddos are unkind to each other, I make them say something nice to the other or perform an act of service for the other kid. Some days I pull out little bo...

Thousand Gifts

Image
As you know, last year I kept track of my thousand gifts on the blog. I started off this year thinking I could just jot them down in a journal, and I did a decent job of it, but not great. The last 6 weeks or so I've completely fallen off the wagon and after a good talk (a.k.a. sob it out) with Becky, I decided that keeping track on the blog again is a good way to keep me accountable, keep me looking for good things every day. It felt a little like falling back into a warm, comfortable habit, and my spirits immediately felt better knowing that I was actively looking for good things. Surprisingly enough, the same day I had the conversation with Becky, this article popped up into my Google Reader, which led me to this one , which really resonated with me and confirmed that it was time for me to start up the list again. beautiful, beautiful weather on a day spent outside joyful little girls and boys at the soccer tournament Camden's exuberance over baseball (and his comp...

Project 365 Catch-Up

Image
I went back to check, and March 29 was the last time I posted Project 365 pages. Oops. Don't worry. I'm not going to catch you up, just the month of May and hopefully I can stay on top of it from now on. I've been having trouble sleeping (3 a.m. seems to be my new wake-up time) so I've been scrapping. And two using very, very old camera pictures.

Good Times

Image
This has been a busy, busy week, but in the best possible ways. Well, except for those pesky doctor's appointments, mammograms, and dentist visit. ;) Other than that, lots of summer fun: baseball games, cousin sleep-overs, trip to the Cumberland River beach, wiener roasts after dark, and cookout complete with homemade ice cream sundaes. I can't possibly show all pictures in one post, but here are the ones from Thursday's beach trip. I managed to narrow down 206 pictures to 37; here are some most of them. And a photography side note (why, oh, why, do I feel the need to explain myself!): I brought my least quality lens, because I was worried about sand/camera, etc. This was not the ocean; hence, the brown tones in the water instead of ocean blue. And, clearly, you can tell when it was bright sun and when it was cloudy. This was Rory's first time to a beach, and she kinda liked the sand! My view ...
