Tuesday's Tidbits

Image
Made these fudge popsicles Friday, and they were delicious. And speaking of homemade popsicles, found this link to 50 recipes. The orange mango ones look really good! And since we're on the subject of food, I discovered the How Sweet It Is food blog last week and spent a whole lot of time browsing. After spending the week wanting 24/7 entertainment, Rory decided that Friday morning about an hour before Brian and Camden were to arrive home that she would finally play a bit on her own. And along those same lines, I apparently should have let her wash dishes on her own a long time ago because she spent a very happy 30 minutes washing 3 dishes, 2 spoons, singing "God is bigger than the boogeyman" and came out covered in water. Camden stayed up until 1:15 a.m. the last night at camp, and he's convinced he stayed up all night because it was morning when he went to bed. Tried a new sleeping pill (courtesy of my doctor just in case anyone thinks I'm drugging mys...

Thousand Gifts 297-319

Image
Look who made it home Friday! And look who was very excited to see him. Oh, yes, that would be 3 garbage bags full of laundry from the week of camp. Two very tired Lewis boys. In fact, Camden didn't even make it through lunch before sleeping for 4 straight hours (and we had to try hard to wake him up after 4 hours). I did not do a great job with my Thousand Gifts the past 2 weeks. Chemo brain seems to make my memory even worse than normal so I need to do a better job of jotting things down as they happen. On my mind specifically today are Tim, my brother-in-law who has a job interview this morning; my sister Elizabeth who has knee surgery this afternoon; and my brother-in-law Micah who takes his medical boards all day. Alot to pray for! 297. phone calls from my mom 298. hunger pains 299. Rory's long floppy pigtails 300. Camden's spontaneous hug to Rory when she hurt herself 301. quiet time 302. anti-nausea drugs 303. meals from church family 304. meeting blogging fr...

Scary

Image
So technically I should have titled this post "new purse" or "fashionista" or something cute, but I think you'll agree after looking at these pictures that "scary" is much more appropriate. Last month Rory gathered up all her "moneys" and we went to Walmart to look at purses and wallets. She stood in the aisle and kept saying over and over, "but they're all so cute!" She finally made her choice, paid for it herself (and I wish I'd had the camera with me), walked out the door, climbed into the car, and said, "mama, I weally need some credit cards!" And now here's the scary part. This girl underwent an entire transformation with that little purse on her arm. She was bossy; she had attitude; she had way too much sass. Even Brian commented when he got home that something was going on with her. And when she asked me to take her picture, I said yes (of course!) but was slightly shocked when she walked into the yard...

Pedicures

Image
So I took Rory for her first pedicure yesterday, and it was quite an experience let me tell you. First of all, Rory just thought that this was a great opportunity to talk to new people. And, they're kind of stuck in front of her so they had to listen. There was a slight language barrier between the little Vietnamese girl who didn't speak great English but tried desperately to understand my 4 year old. Most of the time she just nodded away and really that's all the encouragement Rory needs. Actually, it was the girl who was giving me a pedicure (really, taking Rory was just an excuse to get a pedicure myself) and Rory was quite fascinated that a BOY was going to paint her nails. She sat on the edge of her seat with a Sprite and thought that she was every bit of 18 and grown up. Rory was unaware of the second conversation going on around her, but three workers all separately asked me what country she was from and then were surprised because I said Korea. They all commented o...

Wordless Wednesday

Image
(f2.5, 1/400 SS, ISO 250; taken with my 35mm lens) And a bonus recipe. :) I love this hummus. It's full of garlic, salty flavor. We eat it with pita chips, as a dip for raw carrots, or I like to spread it on a turkey sandwich. I'll warn you - it's fairly addictive. Spinach Hummus 1 can garbanzo beans/chickpeas, drained 1 garlic clove 1 cup packed spinach leaves 1 TBSP lemon juice 1/2 tsp garam masala 1/2 tsp cumin 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp ground pepper 1/4 c olive oil In a blender or food processor, combine garbanzo beans and garlic and puree until smooth. Add the spinach, lemon juice, spices, salt and pepper. Blend thoroughly, with the machine running, gradually add the olive oil. Taste for seasoning.

Tuesday's Tidbits

Rory was on her play phone the other night ordering candy. She asked Brian if he wanted, "hard candy, easy candy, or chocolate candy." And speaking of candy. My tastebuds have made a 180 degree turn since my surgery and subsequent chemo treatments. Sweets are no longer nearly as appetizing to me. My beloved Diet Mt. Dew tastes disgusting. I'm not sure I've had any chocolate. And I crave Chinese food.  This is so not like me. A dear scrapbooking friend sent us money to hire a house keeper during some of my chemo months, and we had our first cleaning Friday. I felt like a woman of leisure, and it was amazing. Such a thoughtful gift (and one new habit I'm going to have a hard time giving up!). Rory had a playdate with Emma yesterday (see picture below) and told me on the way over that she was going to have a "flabulous" time. Since my surgery March 30, I have rarely been alone and certainly not left alone with the kiddos too often. This week alone with ...
