What Sunday afternoons look like

Back to Normal

Image
After 6 days off, Brian headed back to school today. He didn't mind too much since there are only 2.5 weeks of school left (and kids aren't there every day). This is Camden's last full week of school. It feels as if the year has flown by! I worked for a few hours yesterday morning so Brian took Rory and grocery shopped. I've gotta say I'm loving the whole Mr. Mom thing he's got going on recently. After two nights in a row of little sleep, I am tempted to spend this first day back to normal with a book on the couch or at the computer, but I think I'd better get back on the treadmill and take care of the overflowing laundry basket. I do plan to give Rory some extra TV time, though. It's windy and rainy outside and she acts as if she could use the down time (and I could use the extra time to get things done). More Baseball Detail Than You'll Ever Want

Image
I've decided to call the last 5 days "The Week of Baseball" otherwise known as "The Week We Wanted to Pull Our Hair Out". We had a game Thursday night, which we lost 13-0. It wasn't pretty. We had a game Friday night and won 16-0. Camden made it home every time at bat and seemed as if he knew what he was doing at short-stop. Of course, the win wasn't because of our great skill but because the other team was full of cute little 5 year olds who had clearly never played before. We had a game Saturday. We lost 10-6. The other team was C.R.A.Z.Y. and their six coaches spent most of the game arguing with the umpires. They were almost thrown out several times. It's nice that our patient-as-saints coaches stayed calm. Honestly, the whole thing was ridiculous. We later found out that the police were called twice during Saturday's games. Seriously. Once again, so thankful for patient parents and coaches on our team. Despite the drama, the team actually ...

Happy Mother's Day

Image
I think this might be my favorite Mother's Day yet simply because Camden was so precious. He has been a daddy's boy for a very long time, but today he was just extra sweet to me all day long. From the card with pictures of butterflies and grass he picked out because the "words were perfect" and "because Mommy really likes nature" (what??) to the book of pictures he drew me to the little crafty brooch he made at school with the glittery purple heart (on top of the orange buttons) that he was so proud to give me. Thanks to his teacher who told the class that she wore her brooch every single Mother's Day, I may be wearing that thing for a very long time. And believe me, this is the first time I've had to gotten to wear jewelry in public made by a 6 year old. After church this morning, we snapped a quick picture, had lunch, took naps, and then headed to the park. Brian told the kids that they had to do whatever I said because it was Mother's Day so ...

Project 365/52 - Week 18

A little of this and that

Image
Who knew there was a right and wrong way to make cinnamon toast. And Pioneer Woman is right - her way is seriously delicious! "My eyes water just a little bit when I think about the baby birds, mommy" from Camden when we pulled into the driveway and saw the bird's nest (minus the dead baby birds). We spend LOTS of time each day with Rory as she plays make-believe. This week we've added "Anna" who happens to be her imaginary friend that she requests prayer for. "She is very demandable, isn't she" from Camden after I was trying to discreetly describe to Brian someone we all know. I guess I wasn't quite discreet enough. Camden is doing so great with his reading (the teacher in Brian is still impressed with him). A couple of weeks ago they started talking about punctuation and how that should affect how they read. It is so funny to hear him read. When he sees an exclamation point or question mark, he figures the sentence out in his head so he ...

I've got nothing

Image
I've been trying to come up with something remotely interesting for today, but I've got nothing. So here are a few pictures from yesterday - trying to finish up my photo assignment from my last week of class. My kids are getting seriously tired of me following them around with a camera, although I'm pretty sure that won't stop me. I'm assuming I'm my own worst critic, but I can find something seriously wrong with both of these pictures. I'm pretty convinced I'm never gonna get the hang of this, and it's driving me a bit insane. Time to step.away.from.the.camera. Maybe I should switch to something relaxing and try to rework my blog design. Serious sarcasm here, people. :)
