Tuesday's Tidbits

(haven't had one of these in a while!)

We discovered that one of Camden's all-star teammates lives in a nearby neighborhood so they have been spending lots of time together. If you can believe it, this is his first neighborhood friend. Ever. He is over the moon, and it's so cute (I need a better word than cute for a pair of middle schoolers). Camden mapped out the directions, taped them to the front of his bike, and left a note in the other boy's mailbox and it's been all fun all the time ever since. No pictures because hello, thirteen. He is so mortified by the camera these days.

For the first time ever, we were hoping to take advantage of a parent's night out at church (we're usually working at these events instead of getting to be the parents). And then we realized Camden is thirteen and has aged out of the parent's night out.

Also. Having older kids may mean there are no longer diapers to change, but it also means their bedtime is nearly the same as mine. Those 2 hours after the kids are in bed but before it's my own bedtime have been my favorite hours of the day ever since I became a parent, and now they no longer exist. Which is why I have been staying up until midnight and then cursing the alarm every morning.

We made a trip to Nashville Saturday morning to visit Five Daughters Bakery and McKay's bookstore. Camden declared that the donuts "make Krispy Kreme look like Walmart donuts."

(growing my hair out might be the worst decision of the summer)

Camden and Rory are both very into Starbucks this summer, and it cracks me up. Let's be clear. . . the Lewis adults are not funding this addiction; that's all on their own dime. Camden takes great pride in buying a coffee for us, which is sweet.

A group from church baked goodies and took them to our local sheriff's office.

Brian took Rory bowling one afternoon last week. I hear she actually beat him, and this wasn't some let-your-kid-have-a-win situation either.

Brian and I had one movie on our summer list to see (Free State of Jones). We tried to see it 3 times and all 3 times, life happened. This is so typical for the summer of 2016.

While the adults have been b.u.s.y., the kids have been busy taking care of themselves, indulging in too much screen time, not playing outside (hello, 100 degree days) and just barely not killing each other. They are so ready for school to be back in session while the adults feel like the break part of summer break never quite arrived.

Speaking of school, the kids go back next week. I am dreading it and ready for it at the same time.

I've read a lot of bad books in the past couple of weeks, but finally found a couple of winners: Peas and Carrots by Tanita S. Davis, Before the Fall by Noah Hawley, and Last Ride to Graceland by Kim Wright. Books to skip include The Girls by Emma Cline, Life Sentences by Laura Lippman, The Bronte Plot by Katherine Reay, and The Progeny by Tosca Lee.

Do the boys go to the same school?
It wasn't until my kids switched from private to public that they found neighborhood kids! Blessings and curse! LOL

Curious...why do y'all have two copies of some books?
