Good Reads

"If you think reading is boring, you're doing it wrong."

Now that the kids are back in school, my Wednesdays and Fridays are much more productive. They're full of domestic duties like grocery shopping, cooking (I've been trying to take advantage of these days and cook in advance for the rest of the week), laundry, etc.

But Wednesdays and Fridays have also allowed some time for my own interests to show back up in the weekly schedule. I've been scrapping again (this time no pressure to document everything, just what feels fun) and reading. If I were a gambling girl, I would bet that I have read more in the last 3 weeks than in the last year, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I've pulled out some parenting books that I've started more times than I can count but never finished; I've flew through fiction and am working my way through something a little more substantial . . . all at the same time. For the first time in my entire life, I'm reading multiple books at once. Definitely a change for me!

Listing the books so I have a record of what I've recently read and maybe you'll find something new to read as well.

Counting by 7's by Holly Sloan - a quick but completely heart-warming read
 (fiction)
The Queen of the Tearling, The Invasion of the Tearling - I stayed up late reading these two weekends in a row; a little Game of Throne-ish so maybe not everyone's cup of tea
A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet - a collection of stories by one of my favorite bloggers
Astonish Me by Maggie Shipstead - just started this one
Six Ways to Keep the Good in Your Boy by Dannah Gresh - reading this again for obvious reasons; adolescence is tough and I'm trying to understand my 12-year old as best as I can
Everyday Grace: Infusing All Your Relationships With the Love of Jesus by Jessica Thompson - I keep rereading the chapters trying to absorb it all so I'm only about 4-5 chapters in
7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess by Jen Hatmaker - rereading this one because I need a good solid reminder that less is more
For the Love: Fighting for Grace in a World of Impossible Standards by Jen Hatmaker - so I haven't started this one yet because I'm committed to finishing Six Ways to Keep the Good in Your Boy first, but I actually pre-ordered it and it's sitting in my living room taunting me

Our weekend includes haircuts for both kids, shopping for soccer accessories (practice starts Monday), in-service for Brian on Saturday (boo!), change of church schedule Sunday morning (moving to 2 services instead of 1) and a women's event at church Sunday night.

And root beer floats because it is technically still summer.
