Run, Forest, Run

Rory has been obsessed with exercise this past week, specifically running. Last Friday night (after completing our first week back to work and school) about 6:30 she asked if I'd go outside and run laps with her. Considering it was the end of the week and about 93 degrees outside, that answer was a resounding no. In hindsight, I probably should have tried to compromise with a walk instead. (If you're feeling particularly sentimental, read this post and then come back and tell me I should have made the effort!)

When we got home yesterday afternoon, she changed into her "running" clothes, asked if she could use my earbuds and iPhone to listen to music (that was a solid no), told me she was going to run 16 laps, take a break and then run 16 more. And that's pretty much what she did.

We've made it to the end of week #2, and I have to say that I'm pretty happy with where we are. After a rough Monday, I'm getting the hang of things at work. Brian is still having some very early mornings, but he's feeling pretty good about his class at the end of the day. Kids are making a few adjustments, but it's mostly good. Rory is having to manage some pretty high-drama friendships right now, and I have to say that I'm very proud of the way she's handled it so far. How do girl issues start so early? Camden is learning that 5th grade just might require a little more actual studying than he's had to do so far, and he's not exactly thrilled about it.

I'm looking forward to the weekend. It's going to involve maybe a little more housework and laundry than I'd like to do, but we're going to all be together with few plans. I made a monster grocery run this morning; headed out for a haircut in a bit. Frozen yogurt with the kids tonight, maybe a park trip tomorrow, then a full day of church Sunday.

Tre is realizing the same thing as Camden. I could have wrote that exact line. We had some what of a melt down last night when studying.

Also, Emma's dress came from Target but good luck finding one. I saw them a couple weeks out from school starting but didn't have the money and then when we went looking for them I was able to find 1 and it was really a size under what I wanted for her. I wish they would restock them. I will let you know if I see that they do.

I need to catch up! But where did your "little" girl go? She looks so mature suddenly- and apparently is acting that way too. Yes- my son thought 5th grade was a challenge for sure! But sounds like you all are doing quite well adjusting to the new normal!
