Last Week of Summer

Camden and Rory arrived home safe and sound Saturday afternoon. Safe, sound, tired, and more than a tad sassy. I hear their week involved 4 nights of camping, hikes, lots of games around the campfire, some candle making and weaving with the park rangers and alot of eating junk food! I wish I had pictures of their week, but we'll have to just go with the good memories.

What I had pictured of that week without kids was quite different than the reality. The dream was of quiet days spent drinking iced coffee and getting caught up on my scrapping and photography. The reality was no scrapping and a very, very busy week. I will say, however, that my house actually stayed clean without kids to dirty it up. And this completely makes me laugh: we took out a grand total of 1 bag of trash and I did 1 load of laundry for the whole week. That changed immediately after the kids walked in the door, of course.

So part of the reason last week was so busy was that I spent a day in Nashville on a working interview, because . . . . . . drum roll please . . . . . . . . I'm going back to work.

I know. I am surprised myself!

But when the Director of RHP calls and wants you to consider working for him, and then he throws in that it's part-time (but with perks) and then offers you a good salary, working from home on Wednesdays and and lets you leave in time to pick your kids up from school on time? It's kind of a no-brainer. And also flattering. This is obviously going to be a huge change for our family dynamic, and I am very excited about moving forward. I start a week from today.

Two other things kept me super busy last week. First, I finally did something about my lingering lower back/hip pain and went to see a chiropractor. I've assumed over the last 18 months or so that the discomfort was related to chemo side effects. Turns out I have a curve in my spine throwing off my lower back and right hip. Because it's a chronic issue, I'll be visiting the chiropractor regularly. After 4 adjustments, it is feeling significantly better. Second, I started doing some behind-the-scenes work for a wedding photographer (I know. How did I go from no jobs to two jobs in one week?) this past week, and that work made the week fly by.

We're planning to enjoy our last week of summer. And by enjoy I mean survive. It's just me and the kids since Brian is back to school already. We're kind of in detox mode after the kids were with grandparents for 8 days. In fact, Brian gave them quite the talking to last night and threatened them with full days of fun chores like cleaning out the grout with a toothbrush (his idea; not mine) if they can't manage the basics like obedience, common courtesy and respect.

Wednesday is my 3-month check-up with Dr. C and while it's true that I've been busy enough to keep me from worrying about it, I do find myself a little on edge this morning.

Of course, that could just be a reaction to the kids. :)

So weird- I've been thinking of what my life would look like if the cancer went away… and you are showing me! Stable cancer has led to some changes and I was, (again) caught off guard by it.

So happy for the news of not one, but two jobs! That gives me a lift too :) I hope you are able to sink in and find some moments of joy with the kids before you gear up for school and work!! Congrats :)

What a great opportunity!! Enjoy it and remember to take good care of yourself. I've learned it's a constant "chore" to take good care of yourself while working with an illness at play. So excited for you!! Praying for your check-up appointment.
What an inspiration you are for other women who are walking the same path you have walked....life can move forward! It sounds like both jobs are perfect for you! Congratulations!
WHOA!! You have been busy!!! That's awesome! TWO jobs?! And a chiropractor?! All sorts of awesome!!! I'm so happy for you!

Ain't that grand? I believe you did the right thing in the face of your situation. Having your chronic ailments checked out and consulting a chiropractor is a wise move. At least you know why the pain lingers on you, and you are now undergoing the necessary therapy to resolve it. Hope everything's going well now. Take care always!

It's a long summer trip and I am glad to know the fact that you enjoyed a lot. Congo for your new job and hope you learn a lot about photography and get treatment at the earliest to get well soon...
