Is it really March?

Friday night we ate Korean food to celebrate Rory's Family Day. The emotional connection both of my kids seem to feel with something as simple as a Korean restaurant never ceases to surprise me. The food was delicious (and spicy!), the kids both gobbled it up, chopsticks and all. Including the very spicy kimchi.

Saturday morning we went to see our church kids competing in the district competition. They all finished first in their categories. On to state!

Saturday afternoon I met some friends for an early dinner and dessert at The Cookery. It was amazing food, good company, and you should check out the website - a very inspiring mission from the chefs.

It's a bad picture, but the tiramisu was very tasty.

Up next was the Dark Horse Theater, a community theater that is currently showing Six Triple Eight, the story of the first African American, all female company to go to Europe in WW2. We had front row seats and it was very inspiring. And a family from that original Six Triple Eight company was in the audience. Tickets are only $10 and it runs for another weekend so if you're local, I would definitely recommend checking it out.

Like the rest of the south, we were all waiting with bated breath to see if our weather forecasters were going to be right for the first time all winter and actually deliver up the promised winter storm.

And it happened! We have about 2 solid inches of ice underneath the 2-3 inches of snow. Our state is closed down, people. Snow days for all the schools, colleges, and many businesses. Thankfully, we still have our power, but I know there are many without. Brian and I both came down with super fun colds over the weekend, so a snow day worked out especially well for him. I won't be surprised if they're out tomorrow as well since it's not supposed to get out of the 20's today.

Fun fact: six years ago when we brought Rory home from Korea, it snowed the first weekend in March.

That cold did not keep me from introducing my family to a childhood favorite: biscuits and chocolate gravy. I am not sure why I've waited almost 17 years of marriage and 10 years of parenting to break out this breakfast because it was as delicious as I remembered. Oh, wait. Now I remember - it's not exactly up Brian's alley. He reverted back to the typical biscuits and jelly instead of chocolate gravy.

Our plans for the rest of the day include trying to keep the kids from tearing the house apart - they are very wound up with the snow outside and the day off.

Stay warm!
