Christmas books

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is wrapping up seasonal books every year, then letting the kiddos open them up one at a time each night leading up to Christmas (and they LOVE it). Here are the ones we have:

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (this one just might be my favorite)
God Gave Us Christmas by Lisa Tawn Bergren
Christmas in the Manger by Nola Buck
Llama Llama Holiday Drama by Anna Dewdney
The Wild Christmas Reindeer by Jan Brett
The Christmas Play by Clare Bevan
Shaoey and Dot: The Christmas Miracle by Mary Beth and Steven Curtis Chapman
The Snow Must Go On by Molly Wigand
Angelina Christmas by Katharine Holabird
Auntie Claus by Elise Primavera
The Berenstein Bears and the Joy of Giving by Jan & Mike Berenstein
This is the Stable by Cynthia Cotten
Fancy Nancy Splendiferous Christmas by Jane O'Connor
The Legend of the Candy Cane by Lori Walburg
The Story of St. Nicholas by Voice of the Martyrs

This was our third year to do this, and as you can see, we don't have enough for the whole 24 days leading up to Christmas, but my goal is to get there. Soon. Any suggestions?

We added this book to our collection this year http://www.amazon.com/Jesus-Sweetest-Story-Ever-Told/dp/0310708915
The Gift of the Christmas Cookie by Dandi Daley Mackall

My personal favorite (there is a chapter version and a picture book version) The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson

Great idea. I wish I had done that with my children when they were young.

I have been doing this as well since my oldest was a baby, I love to take them out every Christmas and read them...One of my favorites is Christmas in the Country by Cynthia Rylant, love the illustrations and Jan Brett's Christmas Treasury...Hope you are feeling better Melissa.

"The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey" by Sue Wojciechowski, illustrated by P.J. Lynch
(Awesome book and incredible artwork)

"Gift of the Magi" O. Henry
(O. Henry's magical story adapted for children...again the artwork is so beautiful - same artist as Jonathan Toomey)

My kids are 19 and 24, but they still want those 2 stories read every year.

Such a nice tradition. I need to buy lots of Christmas books next year so I can do this with Pierce and Blake.

I didn't see "Twas the Night Before Christmas" on your list. Surely that was an oversight!!!!
I have one called "You are my Miracle" and it is really sweet.

Great list! I created one for our library: http://goo.gl/DQub5 Your kids may be getting older for many of them. But I do like the Humphrey's First Christmas - it's a nativity story.
